Welcome to the Education Box 3-5
Welcome to the Educatiton Box 3-5. Thank you for taking time to check this site out. I created this site with you in mind. I hope to provide a place for CES teachers to share teaching strategies, resources and ideas. I also want to create a site where we can have conversations about our practice. Each teacher here at our school has so much to offer and we can all benefit from learning from one another. I have created pages for each subject area taught in 3rd through 5th grades. These pages can contain posts, links to good sites, video clips, resource lists, links to research articles and best practice suggestions and so on. Please help build the site. Your imput is what will make it unique and specific to our learning environment.
Writing Workshp
Welcome writing fellows! I have been receiving suggetions, writing lesson ideas, good links all semester. It is good to know that we are still thinking about one another long after summer workshop has ended. I have created a blog site for one of my classes this semester. I thought that it might streamline sharing the great ideas if we had a place to post them for future reference. Using the blog to share the info will make it available to every participant with one post and more importantly will make it accessible from any computer with internet access. There won’t be a danger of losing the information when your mailbox is full and you do a mass deletion in a moment of panic or when the network server is spring cleaned!!!! This site will still exist and the information you have shared will still be available. Also, as we use/try the suggestions, we can share feedback, tips for modifying to different grade levels and so on in a format that will be accessible to everybody quickly. So welcome and share away……
Resource for Writing Instruction
Last summer I was a fellow of the National Writing
Project. I was able to share writing, explore new writing instruction strategies, and network with others serious about writing and the teaching of writing. The link below is the homepage of the NWP. There is a wealth of resources and links available for teachers of writing as well as those who consider themselves writers. Check out what’s available there!!!!
Open Respnse Rationales

Here is the link to Laurel County schools Open Response Bank – there are lots of good questions here, but what I find most helpful is the rationale for each answer and the answer that is expected for a score of 4. Reading the rationale helps me see what is expected for a 4
Why a Blog???
Teachers are the most innovative and creative people I know. In individual classrooms all over our school, wonderful things are happening….teachers are creating lessons that deliver content to our students in meaningful ways. This blog is intended to provide you, the classroom teacher, with a venue to share all those wonderful effective ideas. Sharing ideas and information will give us as teachers the opportunity to build on the successes of others, to grow as educators, and to share our strengths with our peers. Talking about the questions we have, and creating a dialogue about teaching and learning in our school will benefit all of us. I have organized the site by pages – feel free to leave a general post on this page or content specific posts on the content pages. It is my desire that this blog become ours, the teachers at CES. Please use it to meet the needs you have – feel free to share suggestions for how to make the blog more useful to you.
